Crown Resort Sydney is the latest addition to the Barangaroo Precinct and the existing Crown Resorts in Melbourne and Perth.  Crown Sydney includes a 349-room 6-star hotel along with 80 private residential apartments above an amazing array of bars, restaurants, gaming and leisure facilities.

ECS was appointed by Crown to monitor and oversee the commissioning activities associated with the project due to the size, complexity and comprehensive integration of the required effort.

Challenges included the logistical difficulties associated with moving people and materials vertically – made more difficult by COVID social distancing restrictions.  The huge number of commissionable systems to work through and the challenges in getting key elements such as the façade, casino equipment and plant rooms sufficiently complete to enable commissioning activities to be undertaken in accordance with the agreed methodologies.  The original mechanical and electrical design did not reflect the staged handover process that evolved during the construction process when it was realised that the original target handover and completion dates would not be achieved.

Conclusion.  A challenging project with completion still pending across a small number of elements as of July 2021.
